Domain Purchasing Overview

What Is Domain Purchasing in StellarSites? #

StellarSites now lets you purchase, register, and manage a custom domain directly in your account, eliminating the need for a third-party registrar like GoDaddy or Namecheap. This makes it easier to launch your site with a professional domain name and manage everything in one place.

If you already own a domain elsewhere, you can still connect it — but now you also have the option to buy and manage your domain name entirely within StellarSites.

Why Buy a Domain Through StellarSites? #

Buying your domain directly through the platform provides several benefits:

  • Simple, built-in purchase experience
  • Automatic DNS setup — seamless domain mapping to your StellarSites site
  • Ability to manage DNS records within your account (MX records, TXT records, etc.)
  • Auto-renewing annual subscription (so you never lose your domain)
  • DNS-related settings all in one place alongside your StellarSites site(s)

Important Notes About Domain Purchases #

  1. All domain sales are final
Once a domain is purchased, it cannot be refunded, transferred back, or undone. This is an industry-wide rule enforced by domain registries—not just StellarSites.
  2. Renewals are also final
Domain renewals are paid annually. Once renewed, the renewal cannot be reversed.
  3. Domains can only be purchased annually
Monthly billing isn’t supported for domain registrations and renewals.
  4. No grace period for expired domains
If your payment lapses or if auto-renewal is turned off, your custom domain will not renew. When this happens, the domain will be automatically disconnected from your StellarSites site, and your site will revert to its original vanity domain.

After expiration, the domain enters a 30-day hold period. During this time, it cannot be recovered through StellarSites and will remain unavailable for reactivation. Once the hold period ends, the domain may become publicly available for purchase again by you or anyone else.

To avoid losing access to your domain, we strongly recommend keeping auto-renewal enabled and ensuring your billing information is up to date.
  5. Supported TLDs
All major TLDs are supported, depending on registry availability.
  6. Purchase multiple domain names for a single site
At this time, it’s not possible to purchase multiple domain names for a single site.

What You Can Do With a Purchased Domain #

Once you’ve registered a domain through StellarSites, it is automatically mapped to your site. Also, you can:

  • View your domain status (e.g., expiration date, etc.)
  • Manage DNS records (MX, TXT, CNAME, etc.)
  • Manage domain name renewals

What You Cannot Do With a StellarSites-Purchased Domain #

When purchasing a domain through StellarSites, it’s important to understand how domains work within the platform. Domains are tightly integrated with the site they’re purchased from and cannot be used independently or redirected externally.

Below are the actions that are not currently supported.

  1. Purchase a Domain in Isolation
Domains cannot be bought separately without an active StellarSites site. They are only available through the Sites → Domain tab and are linked directly to that specific site.
  2. Point the Domain to a Third-Party Hosting Provider
Domains purchased within StellarSites cannot be redirected to or used with external platforms, services, or non-StellarSites websites. They are automatically configured for your StellarSites environment only.
  3. Connect Multiple Domains to a Single Site
Currently, each StellarSites site supports only one domain. Additional domains cannot be linked or forwarded to the same site.
Note: Support for connecting multiple domains to a single site is planned for a future release.
  4. Purchase a Site and Domain Together During Checkout
At this time, domains cannot be bundled during initial site purchase. You must create your site first, then purchase a domain in the Domain tab.
  5. Request a Refund for Misspelling or Choosing the Wrong Domain
Domain purchases are immediate and final. Once a domain is registered—even with a typo—it cannot be changed, corrected, swapped, or refunded. This is due to registrar rules that apply globally across all domain providers.
